Tigers' sentiment is 'Every team needs an Alex Nimmo'

Alex Nimmo’s continuous work ethic that has helped him hold onto and thrive in Ozark’s leadoff spot all season certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed by his teammates and Tigers coach Justin Sundlie.

“Alex is the hardest worker I've met,” junior Hudson Roberts said. “I’ve had weights class with him. If he has a doctor's appointment and is going to miss a weights (session), he'll come in during the morning and get it done before class. He's always hitting before and after practice and taking more ground balls than anybody. It's inspiring to see. Every team needs an Alex Nimmo.”

“There's nobody who works harder,” Sundlie added.

Nimmo can only hope as a senior he’s providing the kind of example for his younger teammates that he saw in past seniors he looked up to while he was an underclassman.

“As a program, we've been taught by our past seniors (about) having a great mentality and work ethic. That's been passed on to us,” Nimmo said. “I'm not the only one who (works hard). We all want to be at the field and be better.”

Even as quietly as Nimmo goes about his business, Sundlie points to him as one of Ozark’s leaders.

“If anybody on this team is going to (be asked), 'Who's your captain?' (their answer is), ‘There’s Alex Nimmo,’” Sundlie said. “He leads by example. He's uncomfortable talking about himself. He's going to talk about all of his teammates.”

Sundlie thinks Nimmo’s senior season can be summed up as relentless.

“He's the kind of kid who has really good at-bats,” Sundlie said. “When he doesn’t, he fights to get back where he needs to be. I'm glad he's enjoying success.”

Nimmo and Ozark first baseman George Reynolds will continue their careers at College of the Ozarks.

Not surprisingly, Nimmo is looking forward to the 15 workstation hours a week he will be assigned at Point Lookout.

“He’s thinking, 'I get to play baseball, they're going to give me a job and I get an education?' He will really appreciate that,” Sundlie said.

“I’ll be busy. Between work, baseball and school, there won't be much free time,” Nimmo said. “I feel like I'm constantly working, so I think it will be great for me. I feel like I’ll fit right in.”
